Jack the Ripper was an unknown serial killer who murdered several women in Whitechapel, London, in 1888.
He killed at least five women, including Mary Ann Nichols and Mary Jane Kelly, mostly targeting poor prostitutes. The murders were brutal and involved throat-cutting and mutilation.
The killer sent letters to newspapers signing the name โJack the Ripper.โ Despite a large police investigation, the murderer was never identified, making it one of the most famous unsolved cases in history.
History records more, but these three victims remind us of the terror that haunted London in 1888.
